Project Snapshot
Electronics for Particle Physics, in One Programme
TWEPP — the Topical Workshop on Electronics for Particle Physics — covers the electronic systems behind particle and astroparticle physics: detector front-ends, triggering, data acquisition, accelerator and beam instrumentation, and the R&D for the LHC, the High-Luminosity LHC, FAIR and the neutrino facilities. The 2023 edition met in Geremeas on the Sardinian coast from 2 to 6 October, with registration opening on the Sunday, and ran its programme on HEPCon. Two years later the community came back with TWEPP 2025 in Crete.
The programme was a working week of 192 talks from 189 speakers in 58 sessions, organised by electronics domain rather than by physics topic: ASIC sessions, trigger and timing distribution, programmable logic with design and verification, invited talks, and a welcome session to open.
A Workshop That Is Mostly One Room
TWEPP is a workshop in the proper sense — mostly single-stream, with two sessions in parallel only at peak — so the app's job was less about resolving conflicts and more about depth: finding the talk on a particular front-end chip among 192, reading the abstract before deciding to move rooms, and having the material afterwards. The full programme was searchable offline, and each speaker's page listed their other talks.
288 Materials for 192 Talks
Electronics talks travel with their slides, and at TWEPP 2023 more materials were attached than there were talks: 288 files came through from the Indico timetable and were readable in the app on the phone — during a session, over lunch, and after the workshop without going back to the Indico tree.
Synced from Indico, Cached on the Coast
The programme stayed in Indico; HEPCon read the timetable, speakers, rooms and materials from it and re-read them as the schedule moved during the week. On the attendee side the programme was cached on first open, which is the right design for a workshop held at a coastal resort rather than in a wired lecture building: the timetable did not depend on the venue's network.
Two Editions, One App
When TWEPP 2025 ran in Rethymno, attendees who had used the app in Sardinia already had it installed and found the new edition in their events list, next to 2023. That is what a topical community gets from an app that is theirs across editions rather than rebuilt for each one.
The Challenge
- • Put the full 192-talk programme and its materials on every attendee's phone, offline
- • Make a single-stream, domain-organised programme searchable by topic and by speaker
- • Sync from Indico without the organizers maintaining a second programme
The Solution
HEPCon synced TWEPP 2023 from its Indico timetable — 58 sessions, 192 talks, speakers, rooms and 288 attached materials — and served it offline for the week in Geremeas, with full-programme search, speaker pages and a personal schedule. The same app carried TWEPP 2025.
The Results
- 192 talks from 189 speakers in 58 sessions served, mostly single-stream with two in parallel at peak
- 288 materials attached and readable offline
- First of two TWEPP editions in the same app, followed by Crete 2025
